Blessed
Unrest
part 2
Blessed Unrest is a short dance film inspired by the words of Martha Graham.
The idea for Blessed unrest came after reading a poem by the American modern dancer & choreographer Martha Graham. It explores the idea of the burden that all artists carry, which is that no artist is ever pleased.
Featuring a captivating performance by the dancer Stan West.
Part 2 focuses on the release that comes with accepting that no artist is ever pleased.
Behind the scenes
The film was shot on a soundstage in South London in August 2020. The lighting set up for part 2 consisted of an LED lights to cast a red glow. There was one light situated on the floor to cast direct light onto Stan, and a light attached to the ceiling to cast light onto the black curtain which we covered the cove with.
To light the dance scenes an Arri 1k was utilised which was suspended from the ceiling to cast a direct light onto Stan from above. Furthermore, a smoke machine was used to add depth between Stan and the black curtain.
We used this set up with the black curtain to create a distinct difference between part 1 & 2.
